Come dreamers, empaths and visionaries! Come insomniacs and those who burn the candle at both ends! Come wanting to dive into dreamland! In this one-and-a-half hour online creative crafting workshop, we will learn lore and remedial qualities of various herbs that are associated with relaxation, prophetic dreaming, and intuition, and sew an herb-and-buckwheat-hull stuffed pillow by hand.
We will go over a simple dream pillow pattern that even a total sewing beginner can handle. You'll also get a detailed PDF about dreams in science and lore, and qualities of several herbs associated with dreaming.
Class is held via Zoom on Saturday from 9:30 am to 11 am PST, on either 3/6/21 or 5/1/21. Allow at least a week for shipping the kit! You must register for this class through the Berkeley Adult School (which is open to all adults): https://basberkeley.asapconnected.com/#CourseID=227937
What's In the Kit?
The stuffing for the pillows comes from a few ounces of organic buckwheat hulls. Buckwheat hulls are a traditional filling for pillows and mattresses in Asia. Each hull is the shape of a cupped hand, so they keep their loft (they don't compress) and allow for a little airflow. They're also hypoallergenic and dust-mite resistant, hallelujah! The organic herbs in the kit are lavender, mugwort and hops. You can also choose whatever other sweet-smelling herbs you like.
You supply your own fabric, thread and needle. Your pillow can be any size or shape (round would be cool!), but for simplicity, I recommend freshly laundered cotton fabric, approximately 18" by 22," or a "fat quarter," which should be more than enough for one pillow.
