Virtual Sawing Skills
March 31, 2021 | 6-8 pm PST
In this two-hour online workshop, you will learn to saw metal with a jeweler’s saw. We will work with a beginning-level project: sawing a shape out of metal. You’ll learn how to load a saw blade, place designs on metal, saw straight lines and curves, and how to file off the rough edges. If you are interested in jewelry making, learning to saw metal is a fundamental skill.
As part of the registration cost, you will receive a piece of 24 gauge metal (brass or copper, TBD) that is approximately 3 inches by 3 inches, and a pack of 12 saw blades (5/0). Please note that you will be required to buy separately the tools listed below.
Material and tools required before class:
V-slot Wooden Bench Pin with a clamp to hold it to your desk (a C-clamp from any hardware store works well)
Jewelry Saw Frame
Cut Lube (or a candle, to lubricate the saw blade)
a can of Rubber Cement
One Metal Jewelry File
- A sheet of paper
Two Hole Metal Punch (optional but recommended if you want to pierce a hole in your piece)
